Celebrating Black Leadership: Scholar Fund & NAACP Chapters in Action!

Black History Month is a time to honor Black revolutionary leaders in U.S. History and beyond! The commemoration was started by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson. Every year features a theme to celebrate the aspirations and accomplishments of Black Americansthis year, the theme is African Americans and Labor.

Black-led organizations are driving racial equity nationwide through policy advocacy, community programs, economic empowerment, education, grassroots organizing, health initiatives, and justice reform—impacting every aspect of society. As a Black-founded and led organization, Scholar Fund is committed to being a part of this movement.

In honor of Black History Month, we are featuring our friends at NAACP Portland, NAACP Snohomish, and NAACP Seattle King County! Scholar Fund is proud to be the fiscal sponsor for these Pacific Northwest NAACP branches to further their vision! Let’s look at their amazing work in action and how you can get involved:

The NAACP was founded on February 12, 1909, to unite people nationwide in the fight for civil rights. From the start, the organization focused on litigation and education to push for laws that would protect Black Americans. Its first decade laid a foundation that continues to shape generations today. After World War I, hundreds of thousands joined, transforming the NAACP into a powerful mass membership organization with over 2,200 branches. As its membership grew, so did its influence—leaving a lasting impact over the past century!
