[The Source] Dream Summer 🪩

✨ Welcome, Dream Summer Interns!

This summer, Scholar Fund is proud to host three fellows from Dream Summer, a national program launched by the UCLA Labor Center in 2011. Dream Summer has supported thousands of immigrant youth with over $1 million in funding. They do this by partnering with organizations rooted in social justice and community, like Scholar Fund. When we asked our fellows about themselves, they responded with optimism, curiosity, and resilience! Join us in welcoming Carlie, Califia, and Yuri!

ā€œMy name is Carlie, and I’m an Advertising and Public Relations student with a deep passion for storytelling, mentorship, and helping underserved communities access opportunities. As a first-generation, undocumented college student, I’ve overcome countless challenges to get to where I am today—and I’m committed to using my journey to uplift others. This summer, I’m excited to be working with Scholar Fund, where I’ll be supporting projects that center students and families—especially those who are often left out of traditional support systems. I’m looking forward to contributing to work that makes education more accessible, equitable, and empowering. Outside of work, I love dancing, journaling, and creating content that blends personal truth with practical advice. I can’t wait to grow, learn, and make an impact with Scholar Fund!ā€

ā€œMy name is Yuri (she/her) and I am a rising senior majoring in Human Centered Design Engineering. I’m interested in research, design, and product management and have a huge focus on tech for good. I’m the oldest sibling with a younger brother and a cat (lol), and in my free time I like to play tennis, bake, and read! This summer with Scholar Fund, I'm working on data visualizations and analysis with Brian [Director of Systems Integration], who is mentoring me on ways to convey the data and numbers to meaningful conversations and insights!ā€ —Yuri

ā€œMy name is Califia, and I’m a Sociology major at Tulane University. I’m passionate about social justice, advocacy, and supporting historically underrepresented communities. As a first-generation college student, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance, asking for help, and creating pathways for others to succeed.

This summer, I’m thrilled to be interning with Scholar Fund, where I’ll be focusing on family engagement, student and family surveys, and qualitative research methods. I’m excited to contribute to work that helps students and families feel more informed, empowered, and connected throughout their educational journey. In my free time, I love to cook, junk journal, and swim—anything that lets me relax and be creative. I’m so excited for what’s ahead with Scholar Fund!ā€
