[The Source] Horizon's Program Update!

Horizon’s and Beyond! [Part two]

In August, teams from Scholar Fund and CARA travelled to the Elevate region to collaborate on back-to-school all-staff Professional development, College and Career Readiness Assistants training, backbone coaching, principal meetings, curriculum planning with classroom teachers, and onboarding of new Elevate high schools!

Some highlights of our time together:

  • Provided all staff PD to 90+ staff at Walla Walla High School.

  • Provided all staff PD to 45+ staff at College Place High School.

  • Provided all staff PD to 20+ staff at Prescott High School.

  • Trained 8 new and returning College and Career Readiness Assistants (CCRA’s) before they start the 25-26 school year (CARA provided 1 training, and Scholar Fund provided 2 trainings for a total of 9 hours of training)

  • Met with school leaders and key partners at Columbia High School, a new school participating in Elevate in 25-26.  They agreed to host a CCRA, launch a school Ecosystem team, and participate in 4 regional convenings this year.

  • Met with content teachers to plan for how to implement CARA’s curriculum during the school day at three schools.

  • Met as a collaborative to plan our 25-26 supports of the region.

This week of integrated supports highlighted how TA providers can collaborate to meet the unique regional needs of regional partnerships and provide seamless supports to schools, districts, partners, and stakeholders.  We were also able to highlight the intersections of our solutions work:

  • Sharing back quantitative and qualitative data from student and family surveys (Scholar Fund) which echo the best practices of high quality advising (CARA).

  • All staff learning how to facilitate and/or embed exploratory activities like college search/listmaking (CARA) and then Ecosystem school teams choose to implement school-day advising as one of their Continuous Improvement goals (Scholar Fund).

  • Exploring adult mindsets about college (CARA) and then doing mythbusting with current funding/financial aid data and outcomes for WA state (Scholar Fund).
