Staff Highlights 😎

Scholar Fund is made up of incredible people doing extraordinary things! Our passion for community extends beyond our work. Here’s how our staff is making an impact!

Eseta (Operations Coordinator: Relief Funds and Community Success)

“I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a team that’s committed to supporting scholars and uplifting communities — something that resonates deeply with who I am and what I love.

Outside of work, I stay grounded through my roots in Samoan culture, especially traditional dancing. It’s more than just a passion — it's a way I stay connected to my identity, my ancestors, and the stories that shaped me. Sharing that part of myself keeps me centered and proud of where I come from.”

May (Software Engineer)

“My husband and I have been volunteer dog fosters with various organizations around the DC metro area since 2021. For the last few years, we have been fostering with an organization called PetConnect. These pups come from various poor conditions, and fostering provides them a safe and loving environment in our house while they wait for their forever home, and teaches them to socialize with other animals. We were able to help rescue 7 dogs last year, and we hope to continue to help many more!”

Julie (Communications Director) and Alejandra (Director of Education Strategy)

Julie Feng and Alejandra Pérez contributed a chapter to Liberation Stories: Building Narrative Power for 21st-Century Social Movements, highlighting the grassroots efforts to provide relief for undocumented immigrant communities during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter spotlights this community win as a case study for how we ought to organize collectively and to practice narrative power. The story they tell is at the heart of Scholar Fund's work.

Cindy (Programs Manager)

“In February, I was a participant in EDGE Outdoor's Learn to Ski and Ride at Stevens Pass Program for Black, Indigenous, Women of Color. EDGE Outdoors is a Black woman-led and founded snow sports initiative that aims to dismantle systemic barriers to wellness and outdoor recreation. Although it was intimidating at first, it was such a beautiful and healing experience to face a fear and learn a new skill with other women like me. I can't wait for this upcoming ski season to continue to grow!”

“I am a member of the Al-Anon community who supports the family and friends of alcoholics with their experience, strength, and hope. We do service by going to hospitals, churches, health fairs, or wherever we are invited to talk about the program that has helped us live with and understand people with alcoholism. We are a non-profit and anonymous sorority.”
